What is SEO and why is it important?
SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process of getting your website listed as highly as possible on search engine listings so as to guarantee the maximum number of visitors to your website.
This is achieved in a couple of different ways the first being to streamline your website so it runs quickly and is easy to use. The second is having it noticed by the search engines through a series of techniques including blogging, add words and for the conspiratorists...some secret techniques that the webmasters would not like known by the public. ;-)
Why? To have your products or services placed in front of as many people as possible with a view to some of them being interested in your product (target audience).
Why is this important?. In today's society more and more people turn to the internet for services and products with an ever increasing audience purchasing almost exclusively online, ie that is now where the customers are. lets take Google as an example as they are the biggest search engine. Just in Ireland in 2016 over 81% of customers search Google for products and services, this number is set to grow in 2017. Search engines have cornered the market in providing information about products and services which means if your company is not listed on Google you are going to miss out on the largest customer base available to you.
The few companies who are actively using SEO techniques or outsourcing to SEO providers are the ones who are getting the lions share of the business because (Un-optimized) business websites are not getting noticed, some are still desperately clinging to the mantra "word of mouth" which with the younger generation being more tech savvy and trusting and using the internet to form their opinion and purchase services and products does not seem like a firm foundation for a future business plan.
In a nutshell its probably time to start looking a putting a valid SEO plan in place for your company website as organically growing your ranking is cumulative.
